I really need to roflmao at most replies .
in over 3 1/2 yrs of gw ive only ever seen gw once do a temp closure and that was maintenance about 2 yrs ago.Im told WoW has a closure almost weekly for updates which amuses me - gw is free and we get live updates but wow is subscription with weekly closure.
Its only a max of 24hrs with no gw - being its said gw is a dying game wheres all the fuss coming from.Is everyone left a game addict who cant survive without gw ?
If you cant go on then when the servers closes briefly go to youtube and watch some gw vids lol.
Us people with a life and jobs/family will easily pass the time doing things in rl ( rather than crying we can do something in the gw fantasy world ) - Get a grip folks as anets staff are having a 1 day holiday whih we dont have to pay for ( unlike wow lol ).

Im sure as hell theres better things to cry over in real life than no gw for 24hrs max .
PS i think i know why they moved to weds - isnt tuesdays usually the wow closure day - 1 day only we get all the wow crybabies on gw ?

Since I am an optimist I will assume they are moving to other servers because they want to leave the current ones open for a massive playtest of GW2 in a couple of months, followed by a release of the full game in the new year.

If the new servers are worse and we get more lag expect thousands of posts whining about it.

If they are better and we get a much improved service expect a couple of posts thanking them.

You know, this thread and the previous one make it seem people are expecting the sky to be falling.

I wonder if the lease for the data center building is up, and they just need a new place to work from.

The reason that the updated notice was not posted yesterday on the game login screen is because the login message needed to be translated into eight languages. It takes time for our external localization vendors to coordinate this with the translators, get it translated, and send us the translated text. Generally it takes a couple days or so, depending on the localization vendor's workload, however we can put translation requests on a rush and get them faster (overnight, usually).

We made the decision to push the updated information on the official website in English first so that the information was out there sooner, at least in English, and then to follow-up on the login screen, when the information was translated for all languages.

We thought it would be better to have the information out there to the communities for which we have Community Manager support (Martin posted this same information on the German fan sites at the same time I did, for example), but if some of our hardcore fans feel strongly about having both the login screen and website updated at the same time, even if the information in English comes a bit later, I can pursue this. Thanks.

Thank you for the response and notification of the downtime in such a timely manner.

If only we knew WHY this was happening, and what benefits the player is gonna get, all will be right with the world.. (or at least the community relations part of it).

Maybe they are preparing for 2012.
Maybe they are putting the servers in a asteroid proof bunker.
Maybe they are hiding data from the Masons/CIA or (insert any group here).
Maybe they are preparing for the Second Coming.
Maybe they are protecting the servers from the Earth's magnetic pole shift.
Maybe they are trying to protect Skynet from John Connors.
Maybe they are plotting to ruin the global economy.
Maybe they are part of a UN conspiracy to take over the USA.
Maybe they are putting the servers in a satanic symbol to summon the Devil.
Maybe they are part of the TEA Party putting subliminal racist messages ingame.
Maybe they are liberals determined to redistribute our money to the poor.
Maybe they are hiding who shot JFK on the servers.

Maybe some of us dont really care why just as long as it works the same. Anyone seen my aluminum foil fez?

Amazing the amount of censorship in this thread. Nice to know that a twenty-something is able to decide what we should read. Good job comrade!

If they don't comment on it, I'm just going to assume there will be no benefit, and it's strictly organizational. I don't mind as long as the performance stays as good as it's always been. I honestly can't think of another time the game has gone down for maintenance. I don't think many MMOs can say that.

Indeed.

That said, if it was vital information, we would have it already. Since we don't have that information, it's safe to assume that either a) it's a run-of-the-mill migration and/or b) it won't impact our gameplay other than the possible 24-hour downtime. It's silly to make demands for information that we don't need.

I don't want to make a new thread about it so I'm just going to post here. 40 minutes before the shutdown info: Our alliance lost half the faction it had and my guild has 106 members
